BASF to Sell its Hydrous Paper Business to Imerys

Posted on June 09, 2015

Dear customers and business partners,

Last September BASF announced plans to explore strategic options for our paper hydrous kaolin (PHK) business. We recently signed an agreement to sell the PHK business to Imerys. In order to remain competitive, BASF is focusing on our leading positions in:

  • Hydrous and calcined kaolin for industrial applications
  • Calcined kaolin for all paper applications
  • Hydrous kaolin for thermal paper
  • Kaolin for process catalysts

Pending regulatory approval, we expect to close during the Q3 2015.

We will honor all existing contracts and fill open orders following the sale. To ensure the supply of PHK, BASF will toll for Imerys during a transition period after closing.  Imerys will contact PHK customers directly after closing. BASF is committed to making this a seamless transition for you.

If you have any questions, please call your local BASF contact. We appreciate the trust you have placed in us over the years.
