BASF Kaolin wins reclamation award
Congratulations to BASF Kaolin‘s Minerals Department for securing the 2017 GMA‘s President’s Reclamation Award. BASF Kaolin has been a leader in land reclamation for many years, and this marks the thirteenth time MidGa has been recognized for its committment to reclamation. Land reclamation regulations in Georgia are comprehensive and require that for every acre of land mined, one acre must be reclaimed. This means the land must once again be able to produce renewable natural resources, such as timber, wildlife, and aquaculture.
This year’s award is the result of reclaiming land that was first mined back in the 1980’s. The Leverett property is a 185-acre mining tract in Washington County, GA. Reclamation efforts started back in 2012, and today rabbits, small game and hawks are part of the habitat
